Accommodations

We will not be reserving a block of hotel rooms. Guests will be arriving and departing at different times and have different needs, so we feel the choice is best left to you. Below you will find some descriptions and links to hotels. Troy has been to Lake Tahoe several times in Winter; his comments are in italics. There are many more choices—check the travel websites for more information. Summer is the high season, and weekends very popular with Californians, so we do recommend that you book early.

We are staying at Harrah's on Thursday and Friday, June 28 and 29, and we will be moving to the Lakeside Inn for Saturday and Sunday, June 30 and July 1.

Casino Hotels

There are five casino hotels in Stateline, Nevada. Stateline is just an extension of South Lake Tahoe into Nevada. The casinos range from the spartan Lakeside Inn to the more upscale Harrah's.

  • Harrah's Lake Tahoe Casino & Resort - recently merged with Harveys - and they're "All Together Now" at Lake Tahoe. And, among other delights, both feature restaurants and lounges on their top floors that offer spectacular views of Lake Tahoe. I've stayed here once, very nice hotel. I believe it is considered the nicest of the casino hotels.
  • Harveys Lake Tahoe Casino & Resort - recently merged with Harrah's - and they're "All Together Now" at Lake Tahoe. Both Four Diamond properties offer fascinating histories, beautiful accommodations, a variety of top entertainment and casino gaming options galore. I have not stayed here, but know friends who have, they said it was nice. There are two towers, one is nicer than the other and you pay accordingly.
  • MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa - a new level of style and sophistication in South Shore and features a superstar lineup of entertainers. Patty LaBelle, Huey Lewis, Wynonna and Crosby, Stills & Nash appear often. Montbleu features a Planet Hollywood restaurant and the popular Nero's nightclub. This property used to be Caesars Tahoe. I'm not sure if it has changed, but it used to rate just below Harrah's/Harveys.
  • Horizon Casino Resort - the original Sahara Tahoe where, back in the '70s, Elvis Presley gave some of his most memorable Nevada concerts. Today, along with exciting gaming and wonderful dining, the Horizon hosts many of Tahoe's most popular annual summer events. The resort also features a state-of-the-art multi-screen movie theater. I've stayed here several times, usually as part of a ski package. Average hotel with a smoky casino. Again, two different towers. The front tower rates closer to the casinos mentioned above. The other tower closer to the lake is nothing special.
  • Lakeside Inn & Casino - a favorite with locals and visitors alike. Voted to have the most friendliest staff, and the best prime rib dinners, Lakeside Inn is a "must do" on your next trip to Tahoe. "Always Friendly. Always Fun. Always." I stayed here with my brother on one ski trip. We liked it. It was spartan and the casino is very small. More of a motel than hotel, but nice and clean. It's a little north of the other casinos, but walkable.

Hotels/Motels

Here are some other options to consider. Some of these hotels are close to the casinos, others are not. I have only stayed in the casino hotels and these are not personal recommendations. However, these hotels seem to have good user ratings on the various travel reservation websites.

Suites/Condos

If you need more room or are staying for longer than just the weekend, here are some suites and condo options.

RV Parks

Are you yearning to drive a Winnebago cross country?

Reno Hotels

Since we are having a late ceremony and dinner afterward, we encourage everyone to stay in the South Lake Tahoe area on Friday night. Reno offers many nice casino hotels. Consider staying here at the beginning and/or end of your trip if you are traveling through Reno-Tahoe International Airport and are arriving very late and/or leaving very early.
